Railway as a main artery of the national economy, an important national infrastructure and public transportation, central government had determined to invest RMB 160 Billion every year during the "11th Five-Year Plan" period into China’s railway fixed assets. As a sequence, China has enjoyed an unprecedented development period in its railway industry over last few years. In addition, the fast-development has shaped and established the initial layout of China’s rapid passenger networks which is to build and expand high-speed passenger rail lines as the backbone to link the major cities.

What’s been happening within China’s Rail Industry?

January 2004, the State Council Executive Meeting approved a long-term Railway Network Planning stating by the year of 2020 the operating mileage of railways in China will have reached 100,000 km. 

September 2006, the first annual Intercity Rail 2006 took place in Shanghai, China. It ended with fruitful results and 200+ industry executives' participation.

October 2007, the State Council Executive Meeting determined to extend China's Railways operating mileage from 100,000 to 120,000 km by the year of 2020.

February 2008, The Ministry of Railways and the Ministry of Science and Technology signed the China High-Speed Train Joint Action Plan for Independent Innovation Cooperation Agreement which marks China's scientific and technological innovation of high-speed railways has entered a new historical stage of development.

August 2008, the first fully designed with China's own intellectual property rights, which has reached the world-class; Beijing-Tianjing Intercity Rail Line started its operation.

April 2009, Intercity Rail 2009 will take place with expectation of 250+industry leaders' participation.
