Climate change has to be considered as an integral element of sustainable development agenda. The “Kyoto Protocol” to the UNFCCC strengthens the international response to climate change. The developed countries commit themselves to reducing their collective emissions of six key greenhouse gases by at least 5%.

Green Actions in China

  • According to the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, Chinese unit GDP energy consumption in 2010 goal to be about 20 percent lower than in 2005.
  • China will build a resource-conserving society and achieve the sustainable development through accelerating scientific and technological progress, optimizing the economic structure and strengthening the energy-saving management.
  • Since April 1st,2008, the Energy Conservation Law Amendment Bill will come into effect.
  • Chinese "New Bible" of Energy issued in December, 2007, is emphasis on accelerating industrial energy conservation and strengthening international cooperation in the field of energy and further optimizing the investment environment for foreign businesses
  • The government has appropriated RMB 21.3 billion to fund 10 key energy conservation projects in order to reduce 240 million tonnes of carbon equivalents.
